about

Periplo del Latte is a set of 11 pieces composed in relation to gravitational data in a theoretical model of Milky Way. In the model, data represent measurements of sources distributed in the space. So, the 3D spatial model has been projected onto 2D and literally explored in the various pieces as a surface to be navigated. The mapping strategy has characterized each source in terms of specific frequency (pitch) and pulsating frequency (rhythmic rate) by taking into account various data parameters. Explorations at the origin of the pieces have been defined following parametrized Brownian algorithms. During explorations (i.e. during each piece), distance has been used first to filter out sources further than a certain threshold, then to set the dynamics of remaining sources. The title of the piece (literally Periplus of the Milk) refers both the origin of the data (the Milky Way) and to the main composing strategy (exploration).
The music is part of the Einstein' Sonata multimedia project by Valeriya Korol, Samantha Stella, Luca Ieracitano, Andrea Valle.
